The oldest castle in Val Pusteria, Castel Welsperg, stands on the threshold of Valle di Casies. Built in 1140 by brothers Schwikher and Otto von Welsperg, today it impresses with its old keep dating back to 1126. The castle currently hosts exhibitions by South Tyrolean artists and can be reached in a short time via the picturesque 2.5 km long castle path from the village centre of Monguelfo. Take the 6-kilometre "Great Castle Tour" for an extra dose of history and nature experience!
Nestled between the Three Peaks Nature Park and the Fanes-Senes-Braies Nature Park you find the crystal-clear Lago di Dobbiaco. A leisurely two-hour hike around the lake – lined with information boards about the flora and fauna – is a great way to discover the lake in autumn and spring. Observe rare migratory birds. In summer, the lake invites you to take a picturesque pedalo trip, while in winter the ice cover turns into a large ice rink. Sports enthusiasts can also enjoy the cross-country ski trails around the lake!
With its turquoise‑green water, Lago di Anterselva is one of the most popular excursion destinations in Val Pusteria. A circular tour around the lake is highly recommended! For those who prefer to admire the lake from above, the mountains of the Vedrette di Ries-Aurina Nature Park offer numerous opportunities, whether it's a leisurely hike through the alpine pastures, a challenging mountain tour or a climb up an over 3000-meter high mountain. In winter, the lake shines in its white dress and provides unforgettable experiences for cross-country skiing and winter hiking.
